Irish Lullaby

It was a few weeks ago that I shared this progress post for the Irish Lullaby.

And I did have the top finished and backing ready before I started working on the Monkey Business I shared last week. But it took me a little more convincing before wanting to baste this quilt because it is a lot larger than my kitchen table.

It's been a while since I started a new project by first choosing the backing fabric. I dug into the drawer of yardage and found this piece from the Urban Mod collection from Art Gallery Fabrics. Then I chose Spraytime by Makower UK for the background and because I love the cool aquas and vibrant green in that backing print, I chose these Kona solids to match: Ice Frappe, Azure, Pool, Caribbean, Cactus and Lime.

Of course, the quilting is my usual organic wavy lines using my walking foot. I chose a blue/green/purple variegated thread from Superior Threads for this, both on top and in the bobbin and I opted to bind using the backing fabric.

The "Irish Lullaby" lap quilt finished at 54" x 70"
and was the 35th use of my 2nd edition of 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

Don't hold this against me....

But this photo would look a lot nicer against a snowy background.
That is the one thing I do miss about winter!

I don't design very many traditional styled quilt patterns. I do love to make patterns that include animals. But I was drawn in by the combination of the Irish Chain and the the star like block in the center of these blocks. This is called Irish Lullaby and can be found here in my pattern shop.

This design can be made using one colour along with the background, in both a positive or negative setting....

Or in two colours along with the background, as shown with this green and mauve setting.....

Or in a 3x3 colour setting along with the background.....

Or in a 2x4 colour setting along with the background.....

By using one of these three block sizes:
10" 15" or 20" blocks

The finished quilt would be one of these three sizes:
36" x 47", 54" x 70" or 72" x 94"

I went with the 2x4 colour setting, but decided on a dark background.
And made the 15" blocks so the quilt would finish at 54" x 70".

Let's Bee Social #180

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!
This week I am working on some other ideas of how to use the new pieced Alphabet pattern.

This is the Harcore Quilter wall hanging and will finish at about 35" square. Maybe I will also make one in a half size? Wouldn't that be cute at 18"?

Have you ever made anything using equilateral triangles? It was a couple of years back that I came up with the Sweet Watermelon design, but I do love to see it being revived each time summer comes rolling back around. There are three settings included in this table decor design - place mats, table runner and a hexagonal table topper.

You can find the Sweet Watermelon pattern listed here in my shop

Now... It's your turn for Show and Tell!!!
What have you been working on?

Monkey Business

These little monkeys are all lined up.
They may appear to be behaving.....

But I think there's some Monkey Business going on!

Sneaky Monkeys....

I am doing a good job of resisting making any fabric purchases this year. And I am digging deep into my stash to find some pieces I have had for so long.

This time I found this piece from the Urban Mod collection from Art Gallery Fabrics. I am hoping you will see this again next week, as it is also ready to back my Irish Lullaby quilt I shared progress of in this post. The top is finished and waiting to be basted!

I love the cool blue aquas in that backing print, but I pulled from the lime green in the leaves to chose the background for the front of the quilt. All the fabrics for the front are from the Artisan Spirit collection from Northcott Fabrics.

Of course, the quilting is my usual organic wavy lines using my walking foot. I chose two different variegated threads from Superior Threads for this, both on top and in the bobbin and I opted to bind this little quilt using the background print.

The "Monkey Business" baby quilt finished at 36" x 46"
and was the 34th use of my 2nd edition of 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

One of the things I love about this new pattern is that it can be made to suit a boy.... or a girl... or to be a gender neutral quilt - all depending upon what fabrics you choose!

AND there are two sizes!

The smaller size has 9 monkeys and finishes at 36" x 46"

The larger size has 12 little monkeys jumping on the bed and finishes at 48" x 54"

This new pattern is called Monkey Business and you can find it listed here in my shop.
