Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather.....

Flock together!

This little quilted table runner was made for my mother for Mother's Day. All the fabric used in the front are from the Hopscotch collection by Jamie Fingal for RJR Fabrics, which you can view here.

When I last visited my mother, I noticed that she had redecorated her balcony in a spring theme, replacing the Christmas items with flowers and birds. She has a line up of tiny birds all along the railing.

But her kitchen table is still decked out in this Christmas table runner I made for her.

If you were here for the Forest Friends 2 quilt pattern reveal, you've already seen the Cardinal. However, I adjusted this fella to have a fatter belly.

Then there is Mr. Robin...

A new version of the Blue Jay from the Forest Friends 2 quilt pattern, again with a fatter belly.

And this is the Red Winged Black Bird.

Of course, the quilting is my usual organic wavy lines using my walking foot, this one quilted close together to provide a dense, stiff finish. I used Omni in Light Grey thread both on top and in the bobbin. The backing is a scrap of Widescreen Crosshatch in Grey by Caroline Friedlander for Robert Kaufman Fabrics, left over from a previous project.

The "Birds of a Feather" table runner finished at 10.5" x 34"
and was the 31st use of my 2nd edition of 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

This new pattern is called Birds of a Feather and you can find it listed here in my shop.
The pattern provides instructions for making BOTH.....
Wall Hanging size 21” x 34” and a Table Runner size 10" x 34"
And also includes a Red Headed Woodpecker

Let's Bee Social #176

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!
So glad to have you join us for the Let's Bee Social weekly linky party!

Last week I remarked that things were going to the dogs.

This week is for the birds!

That's perfect for today's Let's Bee Social post, as Birds of a Feather flock together. And that's what we do each week. I was inspired by the Cardinal and Blue Jay that were included in the Forest Friends 2 design. And thought I should make a few more bird blocks. So I came up with a Red Winged Black Bird, Robin and Red Headed Woodpecker to join the flock.

This week I am busy making up a few of these new bird blocks to make a table runner for my mom for Mother's Day.....

This new pattern is called Birds of a Feather and you can find it listed here in my shop.
The pattern provides instructions for making BOTH.....
Wall Hanging size 21” x 34” and a Table Runner size 10" x 34"

Forest Friends 2

It took a while...

But I finally made the Forest Friends 2 turn from a design idea into an actual quilt.

I am so excited to have transformed these new forest animals and birds into fabric form! All the fabric used in the front are from the Hopscotch collection by Jamie Fingal for RJR Fabrics, which you can view here.

RJR Fabrics offered to sponsor this project using their latest collection - Hopscotch by Jamie Fingal. I love these prints! They are cute and tiny geometric prints that "read like a solid". And the colours are amazing!

As I mentioned before.... The Forest Friends 2 design is compatible with the original Forest Friends design. Both patterns include a Twin size and Baby size option. All the block sizes are the same, so the blocks are interchangeable.

The quilting is organic wavy lines using my walking foot. I chose Light Grey Omni from Superior Threads on top and plain white Gutermann thread in the bobbin for the back.

The backing is from the Urban Artifacts collection by RJR Fabrics, which you can view here.  I am simply in LOVE with this print! The colours, the dots, the flowers and the text. It is just such a fun print!

The "Forest Friends 2" quilt finished at 59" x 75"
and was the 30th use of my 2nd edition of 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

The original Forest Friends pattern is available here in my shop.

And the NEW Forest Friends 2 pattern is NOW available here in my shop.

Both patterns provides instructions for making two sizes.

TWIN Size finishes at 59” x 75”
BABY Size finishes at 31” x 39”

Let's Bee Social #175

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!
So glad to have you join us for the Let's Bee Social weekly linky party!

You could say this week....

Things around here have gone to the dogs.....

These two Husky dog blocks were designed for my good friend Elaine. She is also known as Crazy Quilter on a Bike and her blog can be found hereShe has a Husky named Lexi.

The Husky Dog quilt block pattern has been added to my pattern shop here.

I have quite a few pillow inserts hanging around, so I decided to turn these two blocks into matching cushion covers. Because I did not have enough of either of the paw print fabrics used for the background, I made one with the darker blue and one with the lighter blue, and trimmed the blocks to 18" square after quilting. But my pillow inserts were 20" square, so these guys are quite stuffed!

I used grey thread for the organic wavy line quilting on both.

The quilting stands out more on the darker one, but blends in more with the lighter one.

The backings were made using a heavy decor weight fabric that I picked up at a second hand shop a long time ago. I have used it previously to recover a couple of my kitchen chairs. And I decided to keep it simple by using the envelope style of closure.

And over on Instagram, I was tagged by Jessica when she posted a request for help. Her dog Jenny was dying, and has since passed. Jessica was hoping for help to create a memory quilt using the Dog Gone Cute design. She was asking for white dogs on a pink background using the large size block.

I just know there will be LOTS of blocks made using deep, rich pink colours so I chose Kona Punch for the background. This block was mailed out last week and should be there by now. Sending good thoughts and lots of quilty hugs to Jess!

The Dog Gone Cute pattern can be found here in my shop.
