She emailed me.....

Hi Lorna,
I completed Elephant Parade last year, for my grandson Charlie, he was just 2 at the time. He loves the mother and baby elephants and snuggles under the quilt. Even when it's hot, my daughter says he has to pull the quilt up as I have made it and it has cuddles from me in it! Makes my heart sing, yay! So enjoyed 'building' all the animals! Thanks for making your patterns available for so many to use.
You do wonderful quilts and amazing talent!

Awwww! My heart is so warmed by the story of her little grandson. Can't you just picture him getting tucked in at night and wanting to be snuggled up in the quilt his grandmother made just for him?

It was back in January of 2015 that I wrote about the first Elephant Parade quilt I made. You can read all about the process here in this post.

I did remake the quilt because the first one sold in my Etsy shop.

The Elephant Parade is a free quilt along that you can find here. This has been a very popular quilt along and I have had so much fun seeing so many versions made by those who have quilted along or taken a workshop with me. {Another} Santa Claus Table Runner

You guessed it.... It's another Christmas themed project! This is my second time making the Santa Claus table runner. You can read all about the first one here.

The first one sat in my Etsy shop, for sale, for just over a year. And as soon as it sold.... I had someone making an inquiry as to whether I would be willing to make another. I don't normally like to take on custom orders, but couldn't resist!

I explained that I did not have the exact same fabrics to make this second runner. And chose fabrics from my stash to suit. So while this one is a little different from the original.... It's still just as cute. When it came time for quilting, I quilted with my walking foot in organic wavy lines across the width using Superior Threads' So Fine in grey on top and plain white Guetermann in the bobbin.

This fun little runner was made using Riley Blake's Apple of My Eye Stripe in red for Santa's rosy cheeks. The backing is Winter Garden by Susan Winget for Steele Creek Studio, which I found two years ago at Fabric.com. I fell in love with this print and bought it when it was on sale. I bought A LOT. It may seem like I should be out of this fabric by now... But there's more!

The binding matches the "belt" border. And I love the little yellow belt buckles!

This "Santa Claus" quilted table runner finished at 11" x 38"

and was the 19th use of my 2nd edition of 100 labels

ordered from Ikaprint.

Let's Bee Social #164

Today I'm going to take you for a trip down memory lane...

I am so excited to share this quilt made by Maureen.

She emailed me.....

Hello Lorna, I am a member of the London Friendship Quilters' Guild and I bought the On Point Pattern from you at our meeting. I wanted to make a quilt for a new granddaughter and decided to use your pattern for it. While looking through your patterns on your Etsy site, I saw the Wow-E pattern and knew it would be the right size for a baby quilt, so I used the On Point pattern for the star blocks , but used the Wow-E layout. I thought you might like to see a couple of pictures of my granddaughter's quilt.

Isn't she adorable! And the quilt is simply stunning, too. I love the serpentine stitch Maureen chose for the quilting. Those wavy lines add a softening touch to the sharp points found in the star like blocks.

It was back in December of 2014 that I first shared the first Wow-E! quilt made using these blocks. I had a few fat quarters of solids that I felt really not very appealing. I am so drawn to the brighter colours and felt that these pieces had a washed out look to them. But paired together with some charcoal and silver against a snowy white background, they were rather lovely.

I did remake the blocks in a straight setting for a custom order so this was only the first quilt I shared back then. I took an indoor photo of my completed quilt and then decided to head outdoors for more photos. The photo below inspired me to remake these blocks once again.

After seeing the quilt draped on the door of our rustic well house, I wanted to make it in an on point setting. So I wrote a new pattern for these blocks and gave it a new name: On Point. You can read more about that in this post.

And so here was the finished new quilt made using the blocks in the on point setting. It was a rather windy day so the quilt behaved more like a sail on a ship, but this does help you to visualize just how it would look draped upon a bed, rather than hanging on a wall!

The On Point pattern is one that I had decided to provide in a printed format for sale at guild trunk shows, but you can find the pdf version for sale in my shop here.

Christmas Bow

This is the third quilt block for the "Have a Jolly Little Christmas" quilt along!

It is NOT necessary to purchase the pattern in order to participate. Christmas Bow is a 12" quilt block.

Made using traditional piecing methods.

Sew Fresh Quilts – Christmas Bow

Finished size of block is 12” x 12”

Fabric Require.	Single Block
White	3/8 yard
Dark Bow	1/4 yard
Light Bow	1/8 yard

Read through entire instructions before beginning. Press all seams open as you go.

STOP: Stitch, Trim, Open & Press. To perform the STOP method, align a square (A) or rectangle (C) on the corner of the unit (B) with right sides facing together. Draw a diagonal line and sew along this diagonal line. Trim a ¼” seam. Finger press the seam open and then press with a hot iron. Pressing the seams open to reduce bulk is recommended.

		Single Block
White	D	2 @ 2” squares
	E	2 @ 2.5” squares
	F	3 @ 2.5” x 3.5”
	J	4 @ 3.5” squares
	K	1 @ 3.5” x 6.5”
	L	1 @ 4.5” x 6.5”
Dark Bow	A	2 @ 1” x 3.5”
	B	2 @ 1” x 5”
	C	2 @ 1.5” squares
	E	4 @ 2.5” squares
	F	2 @ 2.5” x 3.5”
	G	2 @ 2.5” x 5.5”
	J	2 @ 3.5” squares
	K	2 @ 3.5” x 6.5”
Light Bow	H	2 @ 3” x 5”
Light Bow	E	1 @ 2.5” square

Step 1: Sew the Dark Bow (B) rectangle to the bottom of the Light Bow (H) rectangle, then sew the Dark Bow (A) rectangle to the end. Use the STOP method to add the Dark Bow (E) and (J) squares. Use the STOP method to add the White (D) square. Make one facing left and one facing right.

Step 2: Use the STOP method to add the White (E) square on the Dark Bow (G) rectangle. Make one facing left and one facing right. Sew these onto the top of the units made previously. Use the STOP method to add the White (J) squares. Sew the White (F) rectangle to the Light Bow (E) square. Arrange the units and sew together.

Step 3: Use the STOP method to add the Dark Bow (K) rectangle on the White (K) rectangle, then add the other Dark Bow (K) rectangle to the other end. Use the STOP method to add the White (J) squares on each end.

Step 4: Use the STOP method to add the Dark Bow (C) square on the White (F) rectangle, then to add the Dark Bow (E) square to the other end. Make one facing left and one facing right. Sew the Dark Bow (F) rectangles on top of these units and then sew the White (L) rectangle between them.

Step 5: Arrange and sew the units together to complete the block. Block should measure 12.5” square.
