Let's Bee Social #183

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!
So glad to have you join us for the Let's Bee Social weekly linky party!

This week I would like to share a cute little quilt made by Jo-Anne. She sent me this photo in an email, as written below....

Hi Lorna. I purchased your pattern in march and finished the quilt. I love it. So much fun to make. This was the first time I made a quilt with precut pieces and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a gift for our friend's baby.     Jo-Anne

I love it when people who have made quilts from my patterns take the time to share their version with me. And when they allow me to share their quilt with you, too! Thank you Jo-Anne for sharing your beautiful finish with us!!!

Here is my original Giraffe Love quilt made back in April of 2015.

And here is the Monkey See Monkey Do quilt to match!

You can find the Giraffe Love and the Monkey See Monkey Do patterns in my shop!

Now... It's your turn for Show and Tell!!!

Let's Bee Social #100

First up.....
I want to thank you all for making the Let's Bee Social a success! This is the 100th post for the weekly linky party. Where the focus is on being social. This linky party relies on your linking up each week, but also on your willingness to visit the other participants. So often I hear from people who have met new friends and how much they enjoy the inspiration found at this party. It makes me so happy to know that you enjoy the linky party and are able to connect with one another. It's comforting to know that in a world filled with so much negative stuff (war, terrorism, racism, etc,) quilting binds us together and builds us up in love and friendship! Thank you for BEEing my friend and for making this party so much fun!

On that note, I would like to share with you some good news. On December 1st, the newest issue of Quiltmaker magazine hits the newsstands...

I am a center fold! Well, at least my giraffe quilt is.....

Here is a pixelated peek! They have changed the name of it from Giraffe Family to Family of Three. But it is the same one I mentioned in this post back when I finished the quilt. I received two issues in the mail this past Friday. And just may be tempted to let one of them go in a giveaway! So stay tuned!

But I DO want to make it clear. In spite of wanting to share the news of being published for the first time in a quilting magazine, I am not trying to be a show off. Or a braggart. Being a center fold is a far cry from being a cover girl. Remember this post about Miley and me?

That post and all my feelings outlined within it, are still as true today as they were when I wrote it. Being published doesn't necessarily mean much of anything as far as I'm concerned. Really. Just ask me.

****Edited to Add****

It's not that I don't appreciate being published. I do. It's just that I don't want rely on what other people think about my work. So many people are agonizing over whether their work is good enough to be published, to be accepted into Quilt Con, to be considered Modern, etc..... And I don't want to lose my perspective. I like what I make. I like what other people make. But I don't want to change my style to suit what other people feel is good or right or Modern. And I don't want people to think that because I got published that I think I am better than them or that my work is better than their work.

Yes, We Have No Bananas....

This is Monkey See Monkey Do and it's made from Kona Cottons.
For the Background: Ice Frappe, Pond, Pool, Breakers & Cyan.
For the Monkeys there is Stone, Taupe & Earth.
Cactus, Peapod & Grass are for the Leaves.

As with the Giraffe Love quilt I finished last week, I had a hard time choosing my backing fabric and looked to my online friends for help in making my decision.  In the end I went with a different black and white print called "8 Days a Week" by Ampersand for Windham Fabrics.

The quilting was performed using my walking foot, spaced 1/2" apart, quilted using Superior Threads' Poly Quilter #331 in Lemon Chiffon thread.  This thread is subtly variegated and warmly depicts the sun kissed breezes blowing among the Acacia trees of Africa.

For the binding I had thought about using a black and white stripe.  But I dug into my stash for something that would blend in with the quilt top and found this Up in the Sky by Dan Morris for Robert Kaufman Fabrics.  I think those blues go perfect with the background of the quilt.  I think those blues go perfect with the background of the quilt and provides a striking frame for this fun quilt.

This quilt finish was the 35th use of my 100 labels ordered from

You can design your own labels, too!  Click here!

The Monkey See Monkey Do quilt finished at 40" x 50"
and is now listed with my other Quilts for Sale in my Etsy shop.

Along with the Giraffe Love pattern,
Monkey See Monkey Do is now available from my pattern store here.

Choosing a backing fabric was difficult.  I looked to my online friends for help in making the decision.  In the end I went with something completely different and chose 8 Days a Week by Ampersand for Windham Fabrics.

This quilt finish was the 34th use of my 100 labels ordered from

The Giraffe Love quilt finished at approximately 40" x 50"
and is now listed with my other Quilts for Sale in my Etsy shop.
