Let's Bee Social #186

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!
So glad to have you join us for the Let's Bee Social weekly linky party!

This week I have been working on a new design called Jungle Baby. This sweet jungle themed quilt features a forward facing giraffe and a monkey hanging from a leafy green tree branch. And finishes at approximately 35" square.

As soon as I had the prototype pattern finished, I was eager to get into my sewing room and dig through my stash to see what fabrics I had on hand. and then I got to work. Cutting, stitching, pressing and squealing in delight as those adorable faces started to take shape. I can't handle the cuteness!

This wee little quilt comes with instructions to make with or without “BABY”. Or you can purchase my Alphabet pattern to personalize.

Speaking of fabric stash....
This is my first stash addition of the year!

This is my entire order of fabric purchased from Chelsea of Bobbie Lou's Fabric Factory. Chelsea has a great deal on shipping and although my entire order would not fit in the envelope, she sent along the Chipper Chipmunk in a separate envelope at no extra charge. Intending to use these to make my new purse, I bought both of the Raspberry pieces on sale!

6 yards of Out Foxed in White @ $10/yard
2 yards of Fox Nap in Raspberry @ $9/yard
2.5 yards of Woodland Critters in White @ $11/yard
1 yard of Chipper Chipmunk in Raspberry @ $9/yard

And lastly, I would like to share this Elephant Parade quilt made by Sharon. Thank you for sharing your beautiful quilt with us, Sharon!!!

She writes."Hi Lorna. I thought you might like to see my version of Elephant Parade. I made this for a grandson that just turned one."

Let's Bee Social #165

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

Today I'm going to take you for a trip down memory lane...

I am so excited to share this quilt made by Debby.

She emailed me.....

Hi Lorna,
I completed Elephant Parade last year, for my grandson Charlie, he was just 2 at the time. He loves the mother and baby elephants and snuggles under the quilt. Even when it's hot, my daughter says he has to pull the quilt up as I have made it and it has cuddles from me in it! Makes my heart sing, yay! So enjoyed 'building' all the animals! Thanks for making your patterns available for so many to use.
You do wonderful quilts and amazing talent!
Thanks again,

Debby.

Awwww! My heart is so warmed by the story of her little grandson. Can't you just picture him getting tucked in at night and wanting to be snuggled up in the quilt his grandmother made just for him?

Thanks so much for sharing your photos and story with us, Debby!!!

It was back in January of 2015 that I wrote about the first Elephant Parade quilt I made. You can read all about the process here in this post.

I did remake the quilt because the first one sold in my Etsy shop.

The Elephant Parade is a free quilt along that you can find here. This has been a very popular quilt along and I have had so much fun seeing so many versions made by those who have quilted along or taken a workshop with me. This pattern is also available as a convenient pdf download for sale in my shop here.

Let's Bee Social #129

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

I just want to say, first of all, how happy I am to see all those of you who stop in each week to join in the fun....  And how nice it is to see so many new faces joining in. Hope you all are ready to party!

Before I go any further....
I just want to make you aware that the week of June 20-24 will be filled with some special Giveaways. So stay tuned!!!

Meanwhile....  Have a look at this little boy.
He is the newest addition to our farm family.

Say hello to Andy!

This week I received some of new patterns that are now available in printed form. Mostly for wholesale to quilt shops. But if you don't have a home printer and would like to get a paper copy of any of my patterns, just send me an email and let me know. My contact info is on my sidebar at the top.

And on Saturday I had the great pleasure of leading an Elephant Parade workshop for some of the members of the Etobicoke Quilters' Guild. What can I tell you about these ladies? Well, for starters, they were so much fun to spend the day with! My cheeks were tired from all the smiling and laughing I did that day. And my throat was parched from all the talking and laughing.

Here we have Sylvia and Janis....

This is "the other" Janice....

And Chris....

This busy stitcher is Róisín....

And here is Marilyn on her way to the ironing board.

Now for those of you who read my post about providing a trunk show for the Etobicoke Quilters in April, you know how much trouble I had in getting to the Neilson Park Creative Center last time. You'd think I would not have had a problem this time having been there once already. But no. First trip there I exited too early off the 401. And this time I went right past it. Thankfully, each time I did indeed arrive. Those girls know how to make everything better.... And had a cup of coffee (and lots of smiling, friendly faces) waiting for me when I walked in.

I had the most fun getting to know these sweet stitchers. They were the most enthusiastic group. Friendly, fun, inquisitive..... And helpful! They offered many insights on how to improve the Elephant Parade pattern. Such as the suggestion to include the advice to either stick with solids or use a non directional print.

As much as we talked and joked around, when it comes to progress, this is a group of serious sewers. I made sure to get a photo of everyone holding at least one of their finished blocks.

When the class was winding down and just when I thought the fun would soon be over.... Janice brought up the subject of fabric shopping. Did I want to stop in at a shop before heading home? Well of course! I followed her over to Sew Sisters Quilt Shop. We had a lovely time browsing around in there. And chatting for quite a while with Judy, the owner. And then Janice got me safely back to the 401 so I could make my journey back home again. Thank you Janice!!!

Did I buy any fabric?

Now that's a silly question!

These are a meter of each from Northcott Fabrics' Painter's Palette collection.

Let's Bee Social #118

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

This past week was a busy one.
Got a lot of piecing and pattern writing done. But not much quilting.

I have been sharing progress pictures of my Black Birds baby quilt on my Facebook and Instagram feeds. Now I am hoping for a Friday Finish!

While playing around with my EQ7 this week, I came up with a blue bird version. This one is using Northcott Fabrics' Artisan Spirit Ambience and Artisan Spirit Shimmer fabrics.

Black Birds with blue bird - 40" x 46"

Now I'd like to share a few photos of this cute little Elephant Parade by Renae!

Renae writes, "I'm very inspired by your blog. I've been seeing for many years, but just in the past 4 months started to learn to quilt. I used your Elephant Parade quilt along to make my very first quilt! I am so proud of it, thanks very much for providing the pattern and inspiration!"

Gotta love the straight line quilting....

And isn't the label simply incredible?!!!

I can't believe this is Renae's very first quilt! She has done a simply amazing job.
And I am so proud of her! Can't wait to see more from this girl!

And here we have another Elephant Parade! This one was made by Libby.

Libby says, "Hello  Lorna, Just wanted to say thanks for the lovely pattern. I'm just getting it ready to mail off to the New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale. A little late, but I'm a hand quilter. It turned out lovely though and I may make it again. Thanks again."

Libby wrote me back again, "Hello Lorna. I just sent you the picture of my quilt. Well, you know how busy us quilter are... Just read a note from the relief quilting committee. They got my letter too late and I'm going to send it next year. Thanks again for the lovely quilt pattern. Lots of people just love it."

Oh well...
Now Libby can have the opportunity to spend some time with her Elephant Parade and will get to enjoy it for a whole year before she gives this beauty away!

I also want to share this sweet Family of Three giraffe quilt made by Ric.

Ric says, "I have 2 nieces having their 1st baby (boys, both) within 2 months of each other. One loves giraffes, the other elephants. Sorry the giraffe pic isn't very clear but the daddy giraffe has brown plaid spots, mommy has flowers and baby has spots in "new calf just licked by mom" look fabric."

"Elephant daddy has plaid ears,  baby has dots and mommy has butterflies. Thank you for this pattern! It is perfect for both." Ric included a bone wish leaf for their dog Rosey and a John Deere leaf for her dad.

These quilts are both so cute! I am certain the new moms to be will be thrilled!

Be sure to leave a kind word or two to let these ladies know how much we appreciate all their hard work. And keep sending in those inspiring photos and emails! Makes me smile!
