Let's Bee Social #202

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

I have been away at Quilt Market and haven't been doing any sewing lately, so I have nothing to share of my own. I did take a few photos with my phone while away and hope to share an update soon!

Thankfully, there are other busy quilters out there who are willing to send me emails and photos of what they have created. And that they have allowed me to share them with you!

This fun Black Birds quilt was made by Ann who wrote, "Thank you for making such a fabulous pattern. I haven’t been inspired to quilt for a few years but a good friend was having her first baby so I hunted around looking for a pattern that would inspire me. Thanks to you I have my quilting mojo back!"

Erica also allowed me to share her quilt and wrote, "My Dog Gone Cute quilt won an Honorable Mention in the Washington State Quilters Annual Spokane Quilt Show. I quilted each Doggy face individually to enhance their features.  I added your extra borders and also quilted bones and paw prints in the outer border."

Thank you Ann and Erica!
Both of these finishes make me so happy!
And it is so fun to be able to share them here on my blog!

If you are interested, the Black Birds pattern can be found here.
And the Dog Gone Cute pattern can be found here.

Let's Bee Social #200

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

A few weeks ago I noticed that Jennifer of The Inquiring Quilter had joined us for the Let's Bee Social by sharing her Dog Gone Cute block that had been modified to look like her family pet that she grew up with. Jennifer had made her dog block with long floppy ears and I asked if she would be willing to share the instructions for how she made them. She agreed to do so, and you can read her post here.

For the record, I just want to say that I love it when I see people using their imaginations. It excites me to see when you take something I designed and "tweak it" to make it suit your needs. That's why I asked Jennifer to share her instructions with us today!

A couple of other quilts I wanted to share with you today....

Made by Deanna of Wedding Dress Blue, these two very sweet patchwork quilts make me so excited. I mean who doesn't love the look of some simple, colourful patchwork? And Deanna has also added a row blocks to each quilt. You can click on any of the photos below to be taken to Deanna's blog to read about these adorable finishes.

Don't you just adore how those backing fabrics were chosen to match the piecing in the fronts? Deanna used the cow blocks for the first quilt and car blocks for the second quilt, but you can use any block pattern in a repeat to make the row. I think it's a great way to make something really fun!

I am on my way to Houston today. My sister is coming along with me to Quilt Market. If you are attending, please drop by booth #209 and say hi! I hope all goes well. We are driving down and back in my old pickup truck, stopping in Nashville for the overnight, both ways.

All my blog and facebook posts for the next week are scheduled to post automatically. So I hope there isn't any trouble with the link ups!!! If you send me an email during this time, you likely won't be hearing from me until I return. But I do appreciate your comments and good wishes and will get back to you in November!

Let's Bee Social # 197

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social! Today I am sharing these two cute quilts made by Linda.

After replying to her email and requesting to be able to share these quilts here on the blog...

Linda said, "I am glad you like them. Once again, they are cute cause your designs are cute.

There is a little game with the puppies. The mama dog is looking for her pup. There are two traits that the mama and her baby share. Which one is the baby?
(clues: they both have the same colour eyes and inner ears.)

Yes, I would be delighted if you shared."

And these are Linda's adorable ducks. That background fabric is perfect for this design. And I love that she added an extra duckling to the line up. What a great way to increase the width of the quilt and add to the cuteness!

You can find the Dog Gone Cute pattern here.

As you all know.... I have been working hard at using up stash this year.
But I could certainly use some help!

There are lots of fabrics, both regular width and wide backing, listed in my shop.
Everything is $6USD per yard and can be found here.

I also have a few listings for quilt kits that include
fabric for top, backing and binding plus the paper pattern.
Check out the Quilt Kits here.

And one last thing....
If you purchase fabric or a quilt kit with the book, shipping is free!

Let's Bee Social #191

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!
So glad to have you join us for the Let's Bee Social weekly linky party!

Remember those days at the fair spent going round and round on the Merry-Go-Round? I do!!!

I have the instructions written. The full sized quilt blocks finish at 38" x 31" and a half sized block that finishes at 19" x 15.5" is also offered. There are three quilt sizes included: Mini - 21" x 18", Single - 42" x 35" and Double - 52" x 66" made using 2 blocks.

This love of carousel horses has led me to come up with a new concept. And this has led me to consider making it a series. I also have the instructions written for the Deer and the Lion. BUT... now I am wondering if anyone would even be interested in making these. They are definitely different. And I think they would make great wall quilts. But for who? And then there is the saddle and rod that make them only suitable as Carousel rides. But they could be make without either or both.

What is YOUR honest opinion???

One more thing....

Last week I received an email from Sheryl who wrote, "Dear Lorna, I love the dog quilt pattern. I'm new to quilting but my dogs came out very nice (thank you so much) anyway I'm ready to quilt it and want to do this myself. I bought a stencil of just squiggly lines but not sure if you would quilt with these lines across the dogs. Can't tell how your quilts are done. Thank you"

As someone who did a lot of outline and echo quilting when I first began, I could understand Sheryl's reluctance to quilt across the dog blocks. So I encouraged her to go ahead and quilt right over them. I sent her a link to my Gallery Page to give her a chance to see that I use this method on all of my quilts. And I also mentioned that I do not use a stencil or mark any lines. I just use my walking foot and wiggle the quilt in waves to make random wavy lines.

It was only three days later that Sheryl wrote back, sending photos, "I've finished my puppy dog quilt thanks to you quilting advise. It's for our new grandson and I love the backing - all puppies! Thank you again."

I replied, "Oh my GOODNESS! I love your sweet doggies! The quilting looks fabulous and you found the perfect backing for this this quilt. I am so happy to see you used your imagination to made a couple of dogs with their ears folded down. And the paw print corner blocks are a fabulous way to add a border. Thank you so much for sending the photos, Sheryl. Would you consider allowing me to share this quilt with my readers providing I only use your first name?"

Sheryl agreed, "Absolutely you can share my quilt. I changed the ears because my daughter that it's going to has a black lab. His head is a little boxy but that's all I could come up with. Thank you again. Your info inspired me."

If you would like to make a quilt like Sheryl's, you can find the free Dog Gone Cute quilt along here or you can purchase the Dog Gone Cute pattern from my shop here.
